“A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable”
– William Wordsworth

Naukuchiatal is the lake of nine corners, situated in the Bhimtal region, near Nainital in Uttarakhand. It is at a distance of 4 km from Bhimtal, and 26 km from Nainital, 320 km from Delhi.
Naukuchiatal is a large, 175 feet deep lake, surrounded by hills covered in trees and shrubs. Being the deepest lake amongst all the lakes in Nainital region, the lake has an underground perennial spring.
A small temple of Lord Brahma is located on one of the corners, by whose blessings this lake came in to the being. Hence, as per the local belief, a parikrama (a revolution around the periphery, on foot) of the lake calls for Brahmaji’s blessings. Mythology also says that whoever is able to see all the nine corners of the lake in one glance, will attain Nirvana.
